here and here and here. Anyone still holding on to the whole military tribunal thing every time some whack job commits or tries to commit an act of terrorism really needs to let that go. Our federal court system, like the federal court in Massachusetts that is currently hearing the trial of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev (a/k/a the "Boston Bomber"), is more than capable of hearing and convicting terrorists for acts of terror committed against Americans. It is highly unlikely that this kid will get anything other than a full conviction on the merits. Even his own lawyer admits that it was him. So rest assured, justice will be served here. And we didn't have to lower ourselves to the level of Tsarnaev by torturing him in some dark room in some off-site secret prison. We didn't have to suspend the Constitution in order for prosecutors to ask him questions. In fact, he was read his Miranda rights by federal prosecutors and they still got all of the information out of him needed to convict. Go figure.
So the next time anybody automatically assumes that terrorists can only be tried in our military tribunals -- which have a horrible record of convicting terrorists by he way -- people need to remember the Boston Bomber, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev - a terrorist who absolutely should be -- and will be -- thrown under the jail for what he did . . . and we didn't need to shred the Constitution to do it.
