Breaking News: Etta James, Dead at Age 73

Legendary Singer Etta James Has Passed Away At Age 73

From Eyewitness News:

Etta James, the legendary singer who mastered a range of styles from R&B and soul to jazz and blues, has died at the age of 73 from terminal leukemia.

The veteran singer, nicknamed The Matriarch of R&B and "Miss Peaches," had been hospitalized late December and for a time was on a respirator to handle her breathing for her. She died early Friday at Riverside Community Hospital.

James, who would have turned 74 on January 25, also suffered from dementia. She was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1993. Her enduring hits include "At Last" and "Tell Mama."

Embarrassingly, I only learned of Etta James when the movie "Cadillac Records" was released, but found her voice incredible and thought she was a superb artist. Here are two of my favorite songs from Etta.

All I Could Do Was Cry

At Last

Rest in Peace Etta.
