Floyd Mayweather the New Fuzzy Zoeller?

Floyd Mayweather was recorded saying some racially motivated comments about Manny Pacquiao.  But there hasn't been much outrage.

Most of us remember the stir caused by Fuzzy Zoeller's, off hand remarks about Tiger Woods.  As the 1997 defending champ of the Master's (which has it's own racially divided history) Tiger got to select the Master's Championship dinner menu the following year.  When asked about Woods, Zoeller made the following comment's - in "jest":

"He's doing quite well, pretty impressive. That little boy is driving well and he's putting well. He's doing everything it takes to win. So, you know what you guys do when he gets in here? You pat him on the back and say congratulations and enjoy it and tell him not to serve fried chicken next year. Got it.....or collard greens or whatever the hell they serve."

As you might imagine, this "joke" went over like a ton of bricks.  While Woods was not offended, many within the African American community were.  Subsequently, Zoeller was dropped by several sponsors, and even today, is feeling it - to an extent - financially.  Additionally, (rightly or wrongly) he will always be know throughout the African American community has a bigot.

There have been SEVERAL instances where racially (or homophobically) motivated comments have been made, and the African American community has stepped up.  Many people have been fired and/or suspended...and recently, Dr. Laura straight up quit.  Personally, I have no problem standing up and holding people accountable for their comments.  I feel that if you don't put out the "small brush fires," you may be left to fight full blown "forest fires" later.

We, as a community, are great at "calling people out," but we don't police our own so well.  I don't remember much outcry from us when Tim Hardaway straight up said "I hate gay people!"  While the NBA did suspend him from sanctioned events, we gave it the Kanye Shrug...

So I'm doing my part!  Since Floyd Mayweather went on a racially motivated rant about Manny Pacquiao, I'm calling him out!!!

Floyd Mayweather, you are WRONG for your comments.  PERIOD.  If this was any other major sport besides corrupt boxing, you would be suspended, fined, and you would lose many of your sponsors.  Boxing, in general - since there isn't one governing body- should suspend your license and I hope that your sponsors do the right thing, and disassociate themselves from you.  Additionally, I think you should apologize to Manny Pacquiao and the gay and Asian communities.

Coming back to reality, I KNOW this won't happen.  I KNOW we - the African American community - won't care and won't hold Mayweather accountable, boxing will do absolutely nothing, and Mayweather's sponsors won't even flinch.  And yes, I KNOW that part of boxing is talking smack; trying to get under your potential opponents skin.  But shouldn't they stop short of race and sexual orientation?  Or do we just accept it because it's boxing? (I guess Tyson did want to eat Lennox Lewis' children)

Being honest, I can't tell you how bad I want to see a Pacquiao vs Mayweather fight.  But shouldn't we hold our own accountable for their IGNORANT rants?  Do we give him a pass because it is boxing?  Do we give him a pass because he is Black?  If we remain silent, are we hypocrites for being pissed at Dr. Laura?  What do you think?  Let me know in the comments below.
