Obama Killed Christmas

Like many of you out there, I have an e-mail account. And, like many of my e-mail checking brethren out there, I, too, learned at a young cyber-age that the "price" you pay for the use of this free service is the ubiquitous chain forward e-mail. The chain forward e-mail covers just about every topic you never cared to learn or hear about, and is known by its infamous tag-line: "forward this [crap I just made up] to [arbitrary number of] people right now or you will have bad luck." And, as if the NSA itself were checking for compliance, people feel compelled to forward these things.

Usually, I delete these things on GP whenever they appear in my inbox. However, there was one forward I received recently from a Church friend of mine so I figured it might be safe to open. As a bit of disclosure, I proudly believe in God, grew up in the Church, and am a Christian by faith. I personally believe that my relationship with God is my relationship with God and doesn't need to be proven, questioned, or manipulated by any other human being. I believe that man is fallible and, to that end, I feel that organized religion and those who are overly religious may sometimes miss the whole point. (these are the views of The Janitor and do not necessarily reflect the views of the Urban Politico and all that legal gobeldy-gook) Case in point, I submit the recent chain forward e-mail that I received that was clearly authored by somebody who, by my view, "missed the whole point":

Twas The Month Before Christmas

Twas the month before Christmas*

*When all through our land,*

*Not a Christian was praying*

*Nor taking a stand.*

*See the PC Police had taken away,*

*The reason for Christmas - no one could say.*

*The children were told by their schools not to sing,*

*About Shepherds and Wise Men and Angels and things.*

*It might hurt people's feelings, the teachers would say*

* December 25th is just a ' Holiday '.*

*Yet the shoppers were ready with cash, checks and credit*

*Pushing folks down to the floor just to get it!*

*CDs from Madonna, an X BOX, an I-pod*

*Something was changing, something quite odd! *

*Retailers promoted Ramadan and Kwanzaa*

*In hopes to sell books by Franken & Fonda.*

*As Targets were hanging their trees upside down*

* At Lowe's the word Christmas - was no where to be found.*

*At K-Mart and Staples and Penny's and Sears*

*You won't hear the word Christmas; it won't touch your ears.*

*Inclusive, sensitive, Di-ver-si-ty*

*Are words that were used to intimidate me.*

*Now Obama, Now Biden, Now Sharpton, and Jackson*

*On Boxer, on Rather, on Ried, and Pelosi !*

*At the top of the Senate, there arose such a clatter*

*To eliminate Jesus, in all public matter.*

*And we spoke not a word, as they took away our faith*

* Forbidden to speak of salvation and grace*

*The true Gift of Christmas was exchanged and discarded*

*The reason for the season, stopped before it started.*

*So as you celebrate 'Winter Break' under your 'Dream Tree'*

*Sipping your Starbucks, listen to me.*

*Choose your words carefully, choose what you say*

not Happy Holiday !*

Please, all Christians join together and

wish everyone you meet during the

holidays a

Christ is The Reason for the Christ-mas Season!

If you agree please forward, if not, simply delete.

Christ is most certainly the reason for the Christmas season. There's no doubt about that. However, as a believer in God, and a believer in using the logic portion of my brain that God saw fit to bless me with, I take issue with many of the propositions and assumptions contained in this forward.

For starters, let's get one thing straight: not everybody in this country is white, male and Christian. Nor do they need to be. Nothing is wrong with people who are not white, not male, or not Christian (if you'll pardon my quadruple negative), so enough with the jabs against Hanukkah, Ramadan, Kwanzaa, and Diversity of Religion. It's getting old, folks. Contrary to what people might have thought back during the Crusades, we actually don't need everybody in the world to worship in the exact same way in order to keep the sky from falling. So get over it.

Secondly, the whole prayer in school thing is much ado about nothing. Nobody can stop you from praying in school, or anywhere else for that matter. What you're mad about is that you can't make a public school make everybody pray over its public intercom or over the P.A. system at football games. Private schools can lead every single kid in the school in prayer all day if they want to. And again, even kids in public schools can pray whenever they want to - but you can't expect a public school, funded by the state, to erase the division between church and state by forcing its students to pray. Trust me, we have separation of church and state for a very good reason. Don't believe me? Go back and read your history book and see how well that whole Theocracy thing worked out for everybody.

Lastly, all of the issues that have been mentioned so far have been traditional conflicts in the United States since the exactly are Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi to blame for why you feel it's no longer PC to say "Merry Christmas" anymore? So let me get this straight - the reason why "Christ" has been taken out of "Christmas" is somehow the fault of the Democratic party? Alrighty then.

There's only one thing the author of this lousy chain e-mail got right: Christmas is commercialized. And guess what else - it has been commercialized for quite some time, folks. But don't blame the Democrats; blame your beloved and infalible Capitalism.
