Today, the International Olympics Committee ("IOC") told America to go kick rocks as it selected Rio de Janeiro over Chicago for the 2016 Olympics. Also PWNED by Rio were Madrid, Spain and Tokyo, Japan. Hey, Rio...can't really be too mad at that. OK maybe just a little mad. You rodizio-eating bastards! *shaking my fist* (save me a plate though)
To add insult to injury, as Zerlina blogged earlier, the White House sent its chief orator-in-chief, President Obama, to make the bid to the IOC on behalf of the nation - becoming the first U.S. president to lobby to the IOC. And what does the IOC do in return? Knocks Chicago out in the first round. Ouch!
So naturally, whenever this current President of the United States stumbles, who is immediately there to toss salt on the wound? You betcha! One conservative blog posted the following:
"Even The One could not persuade the Olympic Committee to award the games to Chicago. President Barack Obama dropped everything - health care reform, addressing Afghanistan, and the economy, to jet off to Copenhagen to make a plea on behalf of his hometown. No president has ever done such a thing before, nor felt the need to. And his pleas were to no avail. Some on the Olympic Committee stated that Obama's presentation "lacked focus." Let's think about that for a moment. Those words could apply to Obama's presidency. Obama's presidency so far could be said to "lacks focus." Obama's attention span seems to be that of a three year old...Being awarded the Olympics would have been Obama's only real achievement as president - other than the Somali pirate incident. Otherwise, so far Obama has no accomplishments since he has been sworn in as president."
I want to point out a little lesson that political critics on the Right like the author above don't seem to be able to grasp: a President can walk and chew bubble gum at the same time. In other words, stop making these logically bankrupt arguments that since we have wars and health care issues and enconomic troubles, the President should just stay in his office 24/7 and never come out to see the light of day. That is nonsense. The last person who tried to use that argument to solve a crisis lost the 2008 election.
And to say Obama has no accomplishments since he as been sworn in as president only proves one of two things: you either haven't been paying attention or you can't read. Before you talk authoritatively about facts that you clearly have not researched, do yourself a favor and take 5 minutes to read HERE for a list of merely a few of the many things that President Obama has accomplished in his first 100 days alone.
Cleaning up messes as usual,
