*Ahem* So You Were Saying Something About No Accomplishments?

This just in: President Obama has won the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009.

Also just in: Rush Limbaugh's head has just exploded.

Undoubtedly, the Right will try to spin this accomplishment as a farce or as some kind of mistake because, according to Saturday Night Live, Obama has done nothing worthy to join the ranks of Nobel Peace Prize winners such as:

— 2007: Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, Al Gore

— 2002: Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter

— 1994: Yasser Arafat, Shimon Peres, Yitzhak Rabin

— 1993: Nelson Mandela, F.W. de Klerk

— 1990: Mikhail Gorbachev

— 1989: The 14th Dalai Lama

— 1988: U.N. Peacekeeping Forces

— 1984: Desmond Tutu

It will be interesting to witness the many different ways this will be spun by the political pundits on both the Right and the Left for that matter. In the meanwhile, CONGRATULATIONS to President Obama for his accomplishment.

Update: Geir Lundestad, the Secretary of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, explains exactly why President Obama received the award.

Update II: Rachel Maddow breaks it down. I'm rather agnostic when it comes to whether he deserves it or not. That can be argued on the merits on both sides.

In the end, he won and he's OUR President.

Update III: Professor Melissa Harris-Lacewell offers up a smart and nuanced take on whether Obama "deserved" to win the Nobel or not.
