Empire State of Mind

For yesterday's tribute to 9/11, Hot 97's Peter Rosenberg and Cipha Sounds took a moment of silence during their morning show to pay their respects. It's always awkward taking a moment of silence. You never really know when to break back in, and when people do it always seems forced and abrupt. Not this time. At the conclusion of this moment of silence, they didn't interrupt it with forced talking or an abrupt "thank you," but instead strategically came back in with the perfect beat, which started off quiet and then gradually grew louder and more complex as it transitioned into the latest song from Jay-Z which aptly fit the occasion: "Empire State of Mind."

This song captured the moment beautifully. It makes me proud to be a New Yorker.

Nevertheless, you don't have to be a New Yorker to appreciate the sounds here. Take a listen for yourself below:

Jay-Z
Yeah, yeah, I'm up at Brooklyn,
Now I'm down in Tribeca, right next to DeNiro,

cruising down 8th street, off white lexus,
driving so slow but BK is from Texas
